Dhoni’s mobile phones stolen after Delhi hotel fire

NEW DELHI: Three mobile phones belonging to Indian cricketer MS Dhoni were stolen on Friday after a fire broke out a hotel where he was staying, Indian media reported.

Dhoni was staying at the WelcomHotel in Dwarka area of New Delhi for the Vijay Hazare Trophy tournament. Wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik and several players from the Jharkhand and Tamil Nadu teams were also present when the incident occurred.

The fire broke out around 6 am at a store situated on the ground floor of the hotel. All hotel guests were safely evacuated from their rooms and assembled in the hotel lobby.

The Delhi Fire Service were called at 7 am who rushed to the spot with over thirty fire tenders and battled for two hours to control the blaze.

Members of the Jharkhand team were staying on the seventh floor and saw smoke billowing from below. All the team members as well as other guests were reported to be safe.

Dhoni was at the breakfast table when the smoke began to get thick and heavy. The mobiles phones were likely stolen as they were being evacuated.

Delhi Police have registered a First Investigation Report (FIR) after MS Dhoni filed a complaint saying his three mobile phones were stolen.

The Jharkhand team rescheduled their match against Bengal after discussion with the match referee.
