12 arrested as police, Rangers conduct raids across Karachi

KARACHI: Police and Rangers apprehended a number of suspects and also confiscated their weapons during raids in different areas of the metropolis.

According to details, in a joint operation of police and rangers, 12 suspects were arrested from the areas of Sharifabad and Nazimabad.

Rangers spokesperson told media that weapons and ammunition were recovered from the suspects taken into custody from Sharifabad and Nazimabad, whereas three more suspects were apprehended from other areas of Karachi.

Street criminals, robbers and drug dealers are among the arrested suspects, as per the spokesperson.

Few other arrests were also made from the areas of Shah Faisal Town, Aziz Bhatti and Defense areas.

Two suspects from Defense area were caught red-handed while snatching a cell phone from a citizen on gunpoint.

In Shah Faisal town, a suspect was arrested in the injured state following a shootout with security officials.

Last month, on Karachi-Hyderabad Motorway near Khilji Goth two drug dealers were injured during the firing, while another two were arrested during a police raid against drug traffickers when the latter began firing.

The residents of the area claimed that a 17-year-old, Bilal, was allegedly killed in aerial firing of police officials and an 18-year-old, was critically injured in the firing.

The residents of the area staged a protest and they blocked the highway by placing corpse of the 17-year-old victim in the middle of the road.

The demonstrators also pelted stones at police mobile vans and at the Gadap police station during the protest.
