The Dutch ambassador, who was also aboard the military Mi-17 helicopter which crashed in Naltar in Gilgit-Baltistan on May 8, had been critically injured. Eight other passengers had been killed in the crash including the ambassadors to Pakistan of Philippines, Norway and Indonesia (who died from wounds on May 19) and two wives of ambassadors.
Tweets from Ambassador de Vink’s relative provided updates on his condition while he undergoes treatment in his native Netherlands.
The helicopter, which was carrying foreign
dignitaries, crashed in Naltar area of Gilgit Baltistan. The diplomats were on a three-day visit to inspect projects in Pakistan and were scheduled to meet Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. Ambassadors of Norwegian and Philippines also died due to the helicopter crash. The Prime Minister and Chief of Army Staff also expressed their grief and condolences over the tragic event.
