ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Tuesday directed the federal authorities to replace the chief secretaries and provincial police chiefs of all provinces, ARY News reported.
The commission has issued directives to the Establishment Division to appoint new chief secretaries as well as Inspector General of Police (IGPs) in the four provinces by tomorrow.
After the appointment, they all are required to attend a meeting to be convened by the ECP on June 14.
The commission will hold an important meeting in Islamabad on Thursday to review the security arrangements for upcoming general elections.
Earlier, Caretaker Prime Minister Justice (retd) Nasirul Mulk said the interim government is firmly committed to provide all possible assistance to the electoral body for holding free, fair and peaceful elections as per the schedule.
He was talking to the Chief Election Commissioner Sardar Muhammad Raza who called on him in Islamabad today (Tuesday)
Matters pertaining to the forthcoming general elections came under discussion during the meeting.
Justice (retired) Nasirul Mulk on June 1 took oath as caretaker prime minister. He was administered oath of office by President Mamnoon Hussain at a ceremony held at the Aiwan-e-Sadr.
The caretaker premier, while speaking to journalists after taking oath, said his government will make sure elections are held on time and in a transparent manner, and will act within their mandate and the responsibility they have been given.
He further said they would support the Election Commission of Pakistan to conduct free and fair elections as scheduled.
Justice Mulk expressed a resolve that he will exercise his powers as per the country’s Constitution to serve the masses during two-month long period of his stint as interim premier.
He had reiterated that holding general elections as scheduled is a top priority of the interim government.
