ISLAMABAD: The election commission will announce the name of Balochistan Caretaker CM on Friday (tomorrow) to complete the phase of the appointment of caretaker chief ministers in the country.
The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has called a meeting tomorrow at 10:00 am to take decision about the Caretaker Chief Minister of Balochistan.
The ECP has received four names to decide about one of them as the interim chief minister of the province. The proposed names for the slot included Aslam Bhotani and Ashraf Jahangir Qazi from the opposition and Shaukat Popalzai and Allauddin Marri from the provincial government.
The ECP today decided the name of Prof. Hassan Askari as the Caretaker Chief Minister of Punjab from the four names recommended by the opposition and the government.
The name of Hassan Askari was proposed by the opposition for the top slot in Punjab.
After failure of the opposition and the government to strike a consensus over the name for the caretaker chief minister of Punjab, the names were forwarded to the election commission to select one of the four proposed names.
According to the constitutional procedure for formation of a caretaker setup, if the government and the opposition fail to decide the name of caretaker chief minister within a specific period, they forward the matter to a parliamentary panel with equal representation from both sides. In case, the deadlock persists at the panel level, the election commission decides the matter in the end.
