ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) will issue a notification on candidates who have been elected on general seats of the national and provincial assemblies.

Couple of days ago, the successful candidates had submitted their election expenses to the ECP from all the constituencies.

According to the ECP, it has received details of 269 National Assembly candidates, 295 Punjab Assembly candidates, 129 from Sindh Assembly, 97 from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and 49 candidates from Balochistan.

The details will also be published on the election body’s website. The ECP after receiving the details has started working on issuing a notification declaring successful candidates, except in those constituencies where results have been challenged in courts.

All successful candidates were bound to submit their expenditure details within 10 days of polling, while non-successful candidates were required to submit expenditure detail within 30 days.

Independent candidates are either required to join any political party in the Parliament or retain their independent status within three days from the issuance of notification.

It is the constitutional obligation that the session of new assembly should be convened within 21 days after elections so that the election of new prime minister, speaker and deputy speaker might be carried out.

In the general elections held on July 25, Imran Khan’s PTI did better than expected to scoop up 16.86 million votes, trouncing the party of jailed former premier Nawaz Sharif, which finished second with 12.89 million.

Earlier the 116 seats won by Khan’s lawmakers were not enough to give him a majority in the 272-seat National Assembly without coalition partners, but coalition with smaller parties and independent candidates allowed PTI to form its government in Centre.
