KARACHI: Eid-ul-Azha celebrations continued on Sunday for second day across the country as many people are sacrificing animals today, ARY News reported.

The faithful are slaughtering their sacrificial animals in remembrance of Sunnat-e Ibrahimi which will continue for tomorrow (third day of Eid-ul-Azha).

Also known as the Feast of Sacrifice is one of two Eid festivals observed by the Muslim faithful to commemorate Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his own son to God. Traditionally marked by the slaughter of animals, whose meat is shared with family members and the poor.

Hazrat Ibrahim’s submission to God’s command to sacrifice his own son was so dear that the act of sacrifice was mandated on all Muslims performing Hajj. Just when Ibrahim was about to sacrifice his son, God ordered to kill an animal instead. This tradition is being followed even today to keep the spirit of sacrifice alive.

Federal and provincial governments have chalked out elaborate security arrangements across the country to avoid any untoward incident.

Civic authorities of different cities and towns have also made special arrangements for disposal of offal and other solid waste during three days of Eid.

Meanwhile, health and environmental experts have stressed the importance of properly removing blood, offal and other waste after an animal has been sacrificed.

Cautioning authorities, experts have said that failure to dispose the animal waste properly may lead to health problems and environmental pollution.
