Electioneering for local council polls in Karachi rises to hysteric level

Political parties and independent contenders trying hard to get support of voters for local government elections in remaining districts of Sindh and Punjab provinces.

The voters in six districts of Karachi will elect their councillors in a multi-pronged contest in which Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf (PTI), Jamaat Islami, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz apart of large number of independent aspirants will challenge the political dominance of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) in the port city.

The political parties have made election alliances and seat adjustment in the final phase of grassroot elections in Karachi’s District Central, District East, District West, District South, Korangi and Malir.

MQM exercising its election muscle to represent the city on grassroot level of governance with election rallies, corner meetings and house to house convassing.

PTI Chairman Imran Khan and Jamat Islami leader Sirajul Haq on Saturday led twin rallies to boost the fortunes of their party candidates.

Pakistan People’s Party’s Bilawal Bhutto Zardari had also addressed an election rally to muster support for the ruling party which faces challenges in party stronghold Lyari and other areas.

In Punjab remaining 12 districts of the province will elect their local representatives in the final phase.

The voters in Rawalpindi, Multan, Bahawalpur, Dera Ghazi Khan, Sialkot, Jhang, Rahim Yar Khan, Khoshab, Narowal, Layyah, Muzaffargarh and Rajanpur districts will exercise their right to vote in the final phase of election in the province.

The candidates of ruling PML-N, PTI, People’s Party, Jamat Islami and independent political groups contesting elections.
