Abraham Lincoln was the first American President to be assassinated. His assassination took place on a Good Friday of April 1865. The president was shot in the head in the Ford’s Theatre in Washington D.C on 14th April. The mortal wound took Lincoln in coma for 9 hours and he died at 7:22 in the morning. The president was shot by a famous theater actor John Wilkes Booth.
The man behind Indian independence and founding father of India was shot on 30th January 1948. Gandhi was meeting a big usual crowd in the prayer-ground at Birla House in New Dehli when Nathuram Godse a radical Hindu and member of extremist Hindu mahasabha shot him thrice in the chest at point blank distance.
The 20th American President James A. Garfield got assassinated on 2nd July 1881. James stayed as president of USA for not more than four months. He was shot twice by Charles J. Guiteau and died after fighting a life and death battle of 11 weeks. Guiteau was immediately arrested on the spot.
One of the founding father and first Prime Minister of Pakistan Nawab Liaquat Ali Khan was assassinated on 16th October 1951.Liaquat Ali was in a public meeting at Company Bagh Rawalpindi later known as Liaquat Bagh when he was shot twice in the chest. The Prime Minister was rushed to a nearby hospital but succumbed to his injuries. His assassin was Saad Akbar Babrak who was immediately killed by the police.
The African American Civil Right activist Martin Luther King was shot dead in 1968 while he was standing on the balcony of second floor of a motel room. Martin Luther was the man behind the movement which was an attempt to abolish the racial discrimination of African Americans. His dream came true when first African American Barack Obama became the President of USA.
The founder of Bangladesh was killed on 15 August 1975 by his own army officers. Mujib was in his presidential residence when junior army officers invaded the place with tanks and killed his entire family and personal staff, only two of his daughters escaped the fatal attack since they were in Germany.
Williams McKinley 25th American President was shot twice in the abdomen on 6th September 1901. McKinley was traveling to the Temple Music in Buffalo, New York where he was shot by an anarchist Leon Czolgosz, McKinley died eight days later on 14th September.
Daughter of India’s first Prime minister and 3rd Prime Minister of India Indira Gandhi got assassinated on 31st October 1984. Indira Gandhi was shot by her own guards Beant Singh and Satwant Singh when she was walking in the garden of Prime Minister’s residence in New Dehli. The guards fired as much as 30 bullets on her. This attack give rise to anti-Sikh riots in the country.
The most shocking assassination of American history was, when the 35th US President John F. Kennedy was shot. President was traveling in his presidential motorcade in Dallas, Texas on Friday 22nd November 1963, when he was fatally wounded by a sniper’s bullet. He died within an hour of the attack in a hospital in the vicinity.
The daughter of the east and only female Prime Miniter of Pakistan was killed in the same place where the first Prime Minister of the country was killed. Benazir Bhutto on 27th December was running an election campaign in Liaquat Bagh. Benazir was shot on the head on her car’s sunroof when she came out to wave to the audience. Some explosives also detonated at the same time that killed approximately 20 more people. The assassination came out as a shock for the whole world.
