1,369 arrested during combing operations in Punjab on Eid

Security forces on Thursday claimed to have arrested at least 1,369 suspected persons during search combing operations across the largest province of the country.

Giving details of the recent operations in the province on Thursday, Mushtaq Sukhera Inspector General Punjab said that LEA and police department in several cases wanted a majority of the arrested people and added, they have also recovered arms and ammunition from at least 305 hardcore militants.

In all some 1,247 combing operations were conducted during the recent Eid holidays in Punjab where security forces made the arrests, said the IG Punjab while giving details of the province-wide operation on day three of the Eid today.

The IG Punjab further revealed that around 27,000 people were also questioned and interrogated by the police officials about their activities and related matters during the last five days.

Only from Lahore, he said, at least 150 suspects were apprehended during combing operations this Eid.

IG Punjab said in Faisalabad, another main city of Punjab, more than 400 raids were conducted in which LEAs arrested 662 suspects.

Sukhera said from Multan division at least 141, from Sargodha division at least 123 and from Dera Ghazi Khan at least 57 suspects were taken into custody during the recent wave of combing operations in Punjab on Eid-ul-Azha.
