182 religious seminaries sealed countrywide under NAP

This was stated in a report submitted by the Ministry of Interior in the National Assembly today.

A breakdown of seminaries sealed across country shows 167 madaris were shut in Sindh, two in Punjab and 13 in Khyber Pakhtonkhwa.

The report also said a number of seminaries getting foreign aid stands at 190 which includes 147 from Punjab, 30 Balochistan and six from Sindh.

The interior ministry claims that 100 percent scrutiny of seminaries in Punjab had been completed, while 80% of inspection had been done in Sindh, 75% in KP and 85% in Balochistan.

Later speaking on the floor of the House, Minister of State for Interior Muhammad Balighur Rehman said steps taken under the NAP include establishment of Special Trial Courts, countering hate speech and material, measures against misuse of loudspeakers, ban on glorification of terrorists, biometric verification of SIMs, Karachi operation and daily combing operations that are creating visible impact and deterrence.
