1st T20: Australia beats England by 13 runs

HOBART: Australia defeated England by 13-run in an entertaining contest of first Twenty20 match in which more than 400 runs were scored on Wednesday, ARY News reported.

Australia winning the toss decided to bat first at Bellerive Oval, Hobart. 

Their opening pair Cameron White and Aaron Finch boosted the score from the start scoring 52 after the six-over power play.

White scored 75 and Finch made 52 providing stand of 106 runs that came up inside 10 overs.

Australian debutant Chris Lynn posted aggressive 33 off 21 balls hitting three 6’s helping Australian total to cross 200.

England began positively through Alex Hales who scored 22 off 21 balls but the wicket kept on loosing on the other hand.

Joe Root scored 32 but wasn’t able to carry on for long getting dismissed at the total score of 100 runs.   

Ravi Bopara went on a late six-hitting surge, England were out of contention although Australia will have been grateful that they had as many as 4 for 213 to work with.

Bopara scored unbeaten 65 off 27 balls hitting seven 6s and two 4s. He single handedly stretched the total to 200 but remained short of 13 runs from the victory.

The second Twenty20 of 3-Match series will be played on January 31 at Melbourne Cricket Ground.
