2 years on, Zahra Shahid Hussain’s family still await justice

TOP NEWS

Nearly two years have gone by and still law enforcement agencies have not found the perpetrators who had Zahra Hussain Shahid murdered in cold blood outside her Defense phase IV residence. The 60 year old woman had been part of Imran Khan’s political struggling since day one, being one of the founding members of Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf, long before the party conducted large public gatherings or boasted of potential electoral success.

She had formerly served as the president of women’s wing of the party in Sindh, and was a member of the central executive committee of the party as well. Zahra Shahid Hussain’s murder was committed on the eve of an important reelection that was to take place between Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf and Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM).

According to eye witnesses, the activist, teacher and PTI leader was shot at by two armed men on a motorcycle. Even after robbing her of her valuables, the assailants opened fire on Zahra before escaping.

Following the murder of Zahra Shahid, tensions reached an all time high between MQM and PTI after Imran Khan directly accused MQM chief Altaf Hussain for murdering the slain PTI leader. Altaf denied the allegations and rebuked Imran’s assertions, stating that he was up for a fair trial.

On March 18, 2015 Rangers arrested a key suspect in the Zara Shahid murder case. However, since two years the PTI leader’s family awaits justice.

PTI chairman Imran Khan tweeted a message today regarding the murder of Zara Shahid two years ago:-
