2014 Hockey World Cup: Australia knocks Malaysia down in opener

THE HAGUE: Hockey World Cup without four times world champion Pakistan began on Saturday with Australia defeating Malaysia in the opening match, ARY News reported.

The opening match was played at Kyocera Stadium. Defending champions Australia outpalyed Malaysia with the 4-0 victory to get off a resonating start in the event.

Glenn Turner scored two goals in the match in the 26th minute, Eddie Ockenden increased the lead in the 50th minute with a reverse drive, Jamie Dwyer dribbled past a couple of defenders to flick in two minutes later before Turner scored his second goal with a firm penalty corner shot.

Two more matches will be played today, between Belgium- India and England- Spain.
