3G spectrum auction: Round-6 concludes, the bids remained same as in last two rounds

ISLAMABAD: The 3G spectrum auction for Next Generation Mobile Services is underway and after Round-6, the bids have remained the same as they were in Round 5 and Round 4.

 

Following is the result of Round 6,

The total value of bids has been increased by $17.82 million.

Base price for four lots was set at $885 million and currently the committed bids are standig at 902.82 million.

Results of Round-7 will be announced at 5:45PM.

Since there was no increment in bids for last two rounds, it is highly likely that all operators have used their waivers / lifelines. Hence it is expected that bids may not go higher than what they are now.

Sources told that there will be a press conference planned for 6:30PM, in which PTA may announce the winners of spectrum or that the bid has been carried forward to the next day.

The Auction is taking place with an electronic System which allowing the bidders to participate in the auction. PTA has chosen the Simultaneous Multiple Round Ascending Auction mechanism.

Four companies namely China Mobile (Zong), Mobilink, PTML (Ufone) and Telenor Pakistan are bidding for the 3G and 4G for 1800 MHz and 2100 MHz Spectrum.

According to PTA three 3G licenses and two 4G licenses will be auctioned. And in order to buy 4G license buying of a 3G license is mandatory.
