KARACHI: Police have booked as many as 400 unidentified and 13 identified people for allegedly disrupting Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari’s election rally in the party stronghold Lyari by stone pelting.

Kalri police station has registered first information report (FIR) of the violent incident which involved a group of people who threw stones at the PPP chairman’s convoy when it was passing through the Agra Taj Colony area on Sunday evening.

The case has been registered under relevant provisions stipulating punishment for causing disruption in peace and hurling stones at a rally. Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act has also been incorporated in the FIR.

Among the people named in the case are Ismail and Haji Bawar Rafique who allegedly led violent protesters.

The PPP chairman visited Lyari to kick off the party’s campaign in the impoverished neighborhood, which historically remained the party’s stronghold.

Bilawal is contesting the upcoming general election for the first time from three National Assembly constituencies including NA-246 of Lyari.
