KARACHI: Always remaining at the hit list of terrorists due to the nature of his job, a frontline man and a reckless officer of the Sindh Police, SP Crime Investigation Department (CID) Chaudhry Aslam was martyred in a suicide attack here on Thursday. Here is a brief history of the veteran police officer and son of the soil:

Muhammad Aslam Khan famous with the name Chaudhry Aslam belonged to Hazara. He was recruited in police in 1984 as an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) and served as the Station Head Officer (SHO) at various police stations of the city. He remained the SHO Kalakot, Lyari in 1991, while in 1994 he was the SHO of Gulbahar police station.

Aslam had a central role in 92 and 96 operations against criminals in the metropolis. He was promoted to the rank of DSP in 1999.

The reckless official was once again promoted and made the SP in 2005, when he arrested the underworld don Shoaib Khan.

During his service, Aslam was also appointed as the head of Lyari Task Force, whilst he gained enough reputation for his stern action against the gangsters there.

He often came across with the then don of Lyari, Rehman Dacoit.

Muhammad Aslam Khan took charge of the head of the Investigation Wing of the CID in 2011 and foiled several plots of terrorists in Karachi and led numerous ambushes on them.

He always remained at the hit list, for all what he had done during his service. Terrorists also attacked his house located in Defence area of the city with an explosives laden truck, however he had a narrow escape then.

But, on January 9, 2014, another explosives laden vehicle succeeded in targeting this brave son of the soil and SP CID Chaudhry Aslam embraced martyrdom following a suicide attack on his twin-cab by-four wagon in Eesa Nagri area.
