Abbasi terms upcoming Pemra meeting illegal

TOP NEWS

ISLAMABAD: Member Pakistan Electronic Media and Regulatory Authority (Pemra) Israr Abbasi has termed a meeting of Pemra convened on May 27 illegal, ARY News reported Friday.

Abbasi, who was one of the three members announcing suspension of Geo TV license, has rejected the show-cause notice issued by Ministry of Information.

He said he, along with two other members, were being threatened to extend favour to Geo. If any other decision [pertains to Geo TV] comes to light, it will be by the government, said Abbasi.

He alleged the information ministry was threatening Pemra officials to provide favour to Geo TV.

He said legal standing of Pemra’s upcoming meeting on May 27 had become contentious.
