No action against Darul Sehat Hospital over licence

KARACHI: Darul Sehat Hospital was being run without licence for years in the metropolis Karachi but Sindh government remained unaware of it.

The provincial government took action against the hospital’s administration over wrong injection to Nishwa and constituted a committee but amazingly it did not take any notice of running the healthcare facility without any legal document.

The hospital administration applied for the licence on Monday after the incident, said the sources and added that the Healthcare Commission did not ask any question from the applicant and received the application.

 

Meanwhile, a large number of citizens and affectees gathered outside the hospital and staged a protest demonstration against the criminal negligence of the hospital administration.

They chanted slogans against the hospital and demanded of the government and concerned authorities to shut down the hospital. They also asked the government to provide justice to Nishwa and other patients.

Earlier in the day, a court in Karachi  sent the suspect, allegedly involved in administration of wrong injection to Nishwa, to physical remand until April 20.

The nine-month-old girl was administered wrong injection by a male nurse, Muez, at Darul Sehat Hospital.

The Shahrae Faisal police produced the suspect before the court. Police said the suspect administered the girl wrong injection against instructions of the doctor.

On April 14, a nine-month-old girl had paralysed allegedly after being administered ‘wrong injection’ by ‘untrained nursing staff’ at Darul Sehat Hospital situated in Karachi’s Gulistan-e-Jauhar area.
