Adiala jail superintendent suspended for allowing Abbasi-Nawaz meeting

LAHORE: Punjab government on Tuesday suspended Adiala jail superintendent Saeed Gondal for allowing incarcerated PML-N leader Hanif Abbasi to meet his party’s supreme leader Mian Nawaz Sharif in the prison, ARY News reported.

According to details, Chief Minister Punjab Usman Buzdar, after receiving an inquiry report, approved suspension of Adiala jail superintendent and four other officers including deputy superintendent Farrukh Ijaz, assistant superintendent Sajid Ali, wardens Muhammad Imtiaz and Muhammad Arshad.

Sources say the inquiry committee had cleared Saeed Gondal’s name but the CM rejected the inquiry report and suspended the jail superintendent.

The  CM had taken notice as on September 20, a photo of jailed PML-N leader Hanif Abbasi meeting his party’s supreme leader Mian Nawaz Sharif in Adiala jail superintendent’s room went viral on social media.

The PML-N leader, who is serving life sentence in ephedrine quota case, was seen meeting Mian Nawaz Sharif in jail superintendent’s room on September 19, hours after Islamabad High Court suspended jail sentence awarded to former PM, his daughter and son-in-law.

After the picture was leaked, Hanif Abbasi, was shifted to a prison in Attock from Adiala Jail on the recommendation of the two-member inquiry committee.
