Afghan President congratulates Imran Khan, invites him to Kabul

ISLAMABAD/KABUL: Afghan President Ashraf Ghani has congratulated Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chairman Imran Khan on his election victory.

The Afghan president said that both agreed to overcome the past and to lay a new foundation for a prosperous political, social and economic future of both countries

He also invited Imran Khan to Imran Khan to visit Kabul. “I extended an open invitation to Mr. Khan and he expressed his wishes to visit Kabul soon,” said the Afghan President.

“I just spoke to @ImranKhanPTI and congratulated him on the victory in parliamentary elections. We both agreed to overcome the past and to lay a new foundation for a prosperous political, social and economic future of both countries #Afghanistan and #Pakistan,” said the Afghan President on social media site Twitter.

PTI spokesman Naeem-ul-Haq also confirmed that the Afghan President had called Imran Khan. Speaking to media outside Imran’s residence in Bani Gala, he said the both leaders discussed a wide range of bilateral issues.

He said that Imran Khan accepted the invitation and he would soon visit Kabul after he is sworn in as prime minister.

Imran Khan had said in his victory speech that his government would like to have better ties with Afghanistan. He had that peace in Pakistan is related to peace in Afghanistan.
