Afridi, Umar Akmal approached for fixing ODI's

TOP NEWS

DUBAI: Star All-rounder Shahid Afridi and Umar Akmal were approached to fix One Day International (ODI) matches during England's tour of the UAE in 2012, ARY News has learnt.

According to British media, both the players turned down the offers after being approached separately for fixing the ODI series.

Shahid Afridi was approached by a gentleman in the lobby of the team hotel, but didn’t hang about to hear how much they were offering, sources revealed.

The 34-year old all-rounder confirmed the news by saying 'It happened during that period and the person got the appropriate reply from me.'

“As soon as I realised match-fixing was on the cards I left, before reporting it to the team management and the ICC anti-corruption unit”, he added.

This is not the first time Shahid Afridi got the offer from a bookie as he had also raised the alarm on the 2010 tour to England of being contacted by British bookmaker Mazhar Majeed for the same purpose.
