Air pollution has become serious issue for Pakistan: speaker NA

ISLAMABAD: Speaker National Assembly Asad Qaiser on Tuesday said air pollution had become a serious issue for the country, ARY News reported.

“Measures are needed at every level to counter air pollution,” Asad Qaiser said while presiding over the Air Quality Asia’s conference on ‘The Parliamentary Role in Advancing the Clean Air Agenda’ at the Parliament House.

Parliament’s role for drive against air pollution was essential; he said adding that a Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) task force for air pollution was present in the Parliament.

The speaker NA said Clean & Green Pakistan and Billion Tree Tsunami projects were welcoming. He said those projects were crucial for clean and fresh air in the country.

The senators, members of the National Assembly and experts of weather change were also present on this occasion.

On March 6, Mayor Karachi Wasim Akhtar representing Karachi in the 9th Regional (Reduce, Reuse and Recycle-3R) Forum in Asia and the Pacific in Bangkok had signed a declaration of Asian Mayors for adopting measures to control water, air and land pollution in big cities of Asia.

The forum was co-organized by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (M0NRE) of Thailand, the Ministry of the Environment of the Government of Japan (MOB), and the United Nations Centre for Regional Development (UNCRD) of Division for Sustainable Development Goals (DSDG)/UN DESA.
