ISLAMABAD: The report on the 2012 crash of Bhoja Air was submitted to the Supreme Court on Monday which claimed that the defunct Bhoja Air committed criminal negligence and made several violations of the Civil Association Authority’s (CAA) license during the operation of Boeing 737–236 aircraft.

A three-member bench of the apex court was hearing the case pertaining to the nonpayment of compensation to the victim families of Bhoja Air’s plane that crashed at Islamabad in 2012.

The report presented by the federal government stated that Bhoja Air requested CAA to grant the permission to fly Boeing 737-236 without Airworthiness Certificate.

Neither was the aircraft approved for carrying passengers, yet it initiated its operations without meeting CAA’s legal requirement, the report mentioned.

Prepared by the high court-mandated commission, the report says that the crew of the plane did not have training to handle the emergency situation such as analyzing weather condition. Moreover, the pilot of the plane was also not experienced enough to fly a commercial carrier, the report added.

The report contended that due to all these factors, on April 24, 2012, the airline’s flight 213 crashed during landing at the Benazir Bhutto International Airport, killing all 146 passengers and six crew members on board.

The Bhoja Air’s counsel informed the court that all victim families had been paid their compensations. Whereas, the counsel of affectees drew the court’s attention towards the fact that one of the accused nominated in the incident’s FIR is out on bail.

The top court directed that cases against those who are out on bail should be decided within a month. The report of the federal government has been made a part of the court’s proceeding.

The hearing has been adjourned till July 30.
