KARACHI: The Agha Khan University Hospital on Tuesday issued a statement to clarify that the hospital only received Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) lawmaker Sharjeel Memon’s blood samples from another hospital and can’t confirm if it is drawn from the patient, ARY News reported.

Apparently irked by the media criticism over the report, the statement released by hospital says that it received a blood sample and a letter requesting a blood test by Dr. Ziaudding Hospital on Saturday, September 1, 2018 at 12:03PM and the blood sample was sent for analysis to laboratory “as per routine”.

“AKUH did not draw the blood sample from the patient. It is, therefore, not possible for AKUH to confirm whether the sample was drawn from Mr. Memon or when it was drawn,” the statement reads.

The statement says that any hospital can send blood sample to AKUH Clinical Laboratories for analysis and it provides the report for a charge.

On Saturday, Chief Justice Saqib Nisar had conducted a ‘raid’ on a room of Dr Ziauddin Hospital in Clifton, which was declared a sub-jail by provincial authorities, where the PPP lawmaker Sharjeel Memon was staying, and reportedly found two bottles of “liquor”.

Sharjeel’s blood samples were sent from Ziauddin Hospital to AKUH Clifton Center for examination. The report, however, stated that Memon’s blood also did not contain any traces of alcohol.

On the other hand, a chemical report signed by Director of Laboratories and Chemical Examiner to the Government of Sindh Dr Zahid Hasan Ansari also stated that the two confiscated bottles contained honey and olive oil.
