ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader Aleem Khan, who is one of the candidates in consideration for the coveted post of Chief Minister Punjab, has said that he was being targeted for supporting Imran Khan.

Addressing reporters outside Imran’s residence in Bani Gala, he strongly lashed out his opponents and questioned the timing of the investigations against him asking why the allegations were not raised before.

Aleem Khan said that he has not held public office since the last eleven years, and was a part of the opposition, but an impression is being given as if he was part of the previous government and behind all mega-corruption scandals.

He said that he has appeared three times before the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and provided all required evidences, while his cases are in the Supreme Court who will issue the final verdict.

He said that he struggled to bring change with Imran Khan but is being targeted for supporting him. He also lashed out the media trial against him said that matters are being discussed on air while he was appearing before authorities to absolve himself of any wrongdoing.

He further said that he had foreign assets but provided their money trail and the documents of his four apartments as well, but still a malicious campaign was being waged against him.

Denying that he was opportunist, he said he never received any favours from the Khyber Pakhtunkwa government and built any properties there. He said he has struggled since years against the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) who frequently changed the status of the properties purchased by him.

Reacting to the timing of the allegations against him, he said that the Sharif brothers were against him, but he presented himself for accountability and will further cooperate with NAB.

He cautioned against targeting any individual and said that his name did not surface in Panama Papers but still enquiries were being conducted against him.
