LODHRAN: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Jahangir Tareen’s son Ali Tareen has announced not to contest the July 25 elections from NA-161 Lodhran owing to his educational engagements abroad.

In a video message, Tareen, who had earlier obtained nomination papers for a National Assembly constituency in Lodhran, said there are many suitable candidates to run in the coming elections from this constituency.

He said those who can serve constituents in true sense by giving them sufficient time deserved to contest the polls.

Ali Tareen said he contested the by-election in 2017 and got 90,000 votes against the governing PML-N candidate, which was a big success.

He said he couldn’t contest the election this time because of his education engagements abroad.

Ali Tareen had lost the NA-154 by-polls to PML-N’s Peer Iqbal Shah, an election which was considered a litmus test for both the parties in the build-up to the upcoming general elections.
