ISLAMABAD: Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said on Tuesday that all is well when our own house is in order.

He was responding to a question about Director General of the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Maj Gen Asif Ghafoor’s press conference.

On Monday evening, Gen Ghafoor addressed a presser, touching upon the country’s ties with India, the United States, and Afghanistan. He also dwelt on a propaganda and the role of social media to discredit the Pakistan armed forces.

Speaking to journalists on the premises of the accountability court, Mr. Sharif said he didn’t listen to the entire press conference.

Speaking about a Lahore High Court ruling striking down the new nomination forms, he said he didn’t oppose inclusion of mandatory information about electoral candidates in nomination papers, but how can a single bench of the court throw out a law approved by Parliament.

When asked about the alleged PML-N’s role behind the much-talked about biography of PTI chairman Imran Khan’s former wife Reham Khan, the former premier said when nothing could be found against the party such allegations are being levelled.

He parked the responsibility of extended hours of load-shedding at the caretaker government’s door, saying his government had added 10, 000 megawatt of electricity into the national grid.

There were no power cuts till the end of the PML-N government’s term, he said and added if there is any electricity shortfall at present, the interim government is responsible.

He said that he wanted to proceed to Saudi Arabia for Umrah, but couldn’t do so owing to the ongoing trial. He said he is also unable to visit his ailing wife because of court proceedings.

Mr. Sharif said the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman has yet not responded to his legal notice.

It merits mention here that the former Prime Minister had served a defamation notice on the NAB chief for ordering an inquiry against him over his alleged involvement in money-laundering of billions of rupees to India – a charge Sharif vehemently denies.
