Alvi assures MQM-P of removing reservations over NA committees
KARACHI: A delegation of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement – Pakistan (MQM-P) called on President Dr Arif Alvi at Sindh Governor House on Monday and apprised him of the party’s reservations over the composition of the committees of the National Assembly, reported ARY News.
The meeting took place two days after the MQM-P stopped its members from attending the upcoming meetings of Parliament’s standing committees in protest against the ruling party over refusal to give it chairmanship of certain committees.
At the meeting, the president assured the MQM leaders of addressing their grievance with regard to the composition of the committees and said the PTI government would take the coalition partner along and remove all its reservations.
Sindh Governor Imran Ismail was also present during the meeting.
Sources said the MQM-P had earlier rejected an offer to head the standing committee on statistics and demanded the chairmanship of the standing committees on human rights, energy and interior be given to the party members.
Yesterday, PML-Q leader Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain rejected reports of differences with the PTI government and said his party will not become a part of conspiracy against the incumbent Punjab chief minister.
He was speaking to the media after meeting a delegation of PTI leaders led by Prime Minister’s Special Assistant on Political Affairs Naeem ul Haq. He said some people wanted to create differences between the two parties and spreading rumours about it.
