ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) member of the National Assembly (MNA) Dr Ramesh Kumar on Wednesday lauded, what he said, swift action against former information minister Fayyazul Hassan Chohan over his remarks against the Hindu community.

Speaking to ARY News, he said the party’s swift action against the minister gave a positive impression. He added he had repeatedly cautioned Chohan about his remarks.

“Some friends said he [Chohan] should be pardoned,” the PTI leader claimed, adding that he was under pressure following the minister’s contradictory remarks against the minority community.

Yesterday, Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar removed Fayyazul Hassan Chohan as provincial information minister after his controversial remarks against the Hindu community created an uproar on social media.

CM Punjab’s spokesman Shahbaz Gill, in a video message, confirmed that Chohan was asked to tender his resignation on the orders of Prime Minister Imran Khan and his resignation has been accepted.

Gill added that Punjab government dissociates itself with the derogatory statement of Fayyazul Hassan Chohan and expressed complete solidarity with the Hindu community.

According to sources, Chohan’s derogatory statement against the Hindu community irked PM Khan who directed provincial authorities to ask the Punjab information minister to tender his resignation.
