Anti-polio drive ends in 22 UCs of Karachi, target unmet

KARACHI: A day-long anti-polio drive, covering 22 union councils, ended in the city on Sunday, however its target could not be met, ARY News reported on Sunday.

A total of 24 UCs were to be covered in the drive, however vaccinators refused to work in two UCs of Bin Qasim Town citing inadequate security.

Around 0.5 million children were planned to be covered, however only 3,50,000 could only be administered polio drops. Over 7,000 polio vaccinators took part in the exercise.

The drive started at 8am and ended 4pm. Strict security arrangements were made for security of anti-polio teams. Motorbike riding was also banned in all the 24 UCs during the campaign.
