ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice Saqib Nisar on Thursday said the Supreme Court would fully protect the rights of transgenders, ARY News reported.

“Transgenders are victim of social issues and they are not treated graciously,” he said while addressing a seminar about protection of transgenders’ rights.

He said trangenders enjoy rights of normal people. “They are already given right to vote and will be given more social rights in Pakistan.”

Giving personal assurance to render transgenders their rights, the chief justice said it was imperative to ensure provision of human rights as Allah (SWT) has made everyone equal.

He said the top court was bound to guard their rights and he would be happy to do something in this regard.

“The distance between you and me is only a letter or a phone call and you will see prompt response,” he said.

The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has started issuing transgenders computerised national identity cards on orders of Saqib Nisar, following which they are now eligible to cast vote.
