Army Chief endorses death sentences of four hardened terrorists

RAWALPINDI: Chief of Army Staff (COAS) on Wednesday endorsed death sentences of another four hardcore terrorists for being involved in various heinous crimes related to terrorism including abduction and killing of Law Enforcement Agencies’ (LEAs) personnel.

According to Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) statement, the convicted criminals were involved in killing of 21 people while injuring another person. All terrorists are affiliated with proscribed militant outfits and tried by the military courts.

“Arms and explosives were also recovered from their possession,” the statement further said.

The convicted terrorists have been identified as Shabbir Ahmed s/o Muhammad Shafique, Umara Khan s/o Ahmed Khan, Tahir Ali s/o Syed Nabi, and Aftab ud Din s/o Farrukh Zada.

Earlier in March this year, President Mamnoon Hussain signed the 28th Amendment Bill 2017 extending military courts for another two years.

The bill, following the president’s signature, is now an Act of Parliament. Under this Act, the duration of the military courts has been extended for another two years, starting from January 7, 2017.
