Army chief meets his US counterpart, senior officials

A State Department spokesman told journalists at the daily briefing that these meetings, focusing on a range of issues, including border security, were positive and productive.

He said, “We have a broad relationship with Pakistan and chief of the army staff’s visit will help further strengthen the bilateral ties.”

Responding to a question, he acknowledged Pakistan’s counterterrorism efforts, including the ongoing ‘Zarb-e-Azb’ operation in North Waziristan, describing them as extremely important.

Meanwhile, United States Central Command (CENTCOM) Chief General Lloyd Austin has praised Pakistan army’s committed fight against terrorism.

According to Director General (DG) Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) Major General Asim Bajwa, the CENTCOM commander, while talking to Army Chief General Raheel Sharif at CENTCOM Headquarters in Florida, paid tributes to Pakistan Army for its commitment, professionalism and achievement in fight against terror.

He said the US General also expressed appreciation for Pakistan’s ongoing Zarb-e-Azb operation.

General Raheel Sharif gave Pakistan’s perspective on regional security, improving Pakistan-Afghanistan military relations. Indian aggression along Kashmir Line of Control was also discussed.
