Army to help ensure peaceful conduct of polls: PM Mulk

ISLAMABAD: Caretaker Prime Minister retired Justice Nasirul Mulk on Wednesday expressed the hope that the assistance of army during general elections will complement efforts to ensure the smooth and peaceful conduct of the electoral exercise.

Chairing a meeting of defense ministry in Islamabad, he appreciated important role of the ministry towards defense of the country.

Secretary Defense Zamir-ul-Hassan Shah on the occasion gave a detailed briefing on working of the ministry. He also briefed the premier about deployment of the army personnel during the polls.

Lately, Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Jawed Bajwa directed the military to perform election duties  with utmost responsibility and without losing any focus on defence and internal security challenges at hand.

A statement issued by ISPR following the 211th Corps Commanders’ Conference held on June 27 resolved, “mandated assistance to ECP will be provided for free, fair & transparent conduct of GE-18.”

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has finalized foolproof security arrangements and decided to conduct July 25 elections in the supervision of army.

The security of printing press, printing of ballot papers and their delivery to respective polling stations will be carried out under army’s supervision.
