Arrested FBI agent Jewel Cox released on bail

ISLAMABAD: The Foreign Office (FO) of Pakistan, has confirmed that the arrested US citizen is not a diplomat, he is in fact an FBI agent and is not entitled to diplomatic immunity. On the other hand, arrested FBI agent, Jewel Cox has been released on bail – ARY News reports.

In a statement issued on Thursday, FO Spokesperson, Tasneem Aslam confirmed that the American national, who was arrested from Karachi Airport on Monday, is an FBI official and the matter of his arrest is being investigated.

She stated that US Embassy had asked for access to its citizen, which was given, while the US Deputy Secretary is also arriving here today.

The FO Spokesperson further told that Pakistan has dispatched relief goods for the flood-victims of Afghanistan, which was sent via two flights.

Tasneem Aslam further stated that Pakistan condemns recent terrorist attacks in China.

On the other hand, the arrested FBI agent, Jewel Cox has been released on bail. He was directed to deposit security bond worth Rs 10 lac and was taken out from the back side of the police station, under strict security.

Cox was arrested after Airport Security Force (ASF) officials recovered 15 rounds of 9mm pistol, 3 daggers and other spying gadgets from his luggage, at Karachi Airport on Monday.

Police had presented him before the Judicial Magistrate Malir, Adam Singhar and requested the court for granting time to interrogate the accused.

 At this, the court had handed over Jewel Cox to police on a four-day remand.
