TOP NEWS

LONDON: Arsenal defeated Crystal Palace 2-0 to claw its way back to the top of Barclays Premier League table here on Sunday, ARY News reports.

Arsenal failed to capitalize on their first shot on goal as Mesut Ozil's attempt was denied by Crystal Palace goal keeper Julian Speroni who saved his lofted shot to the corner of the goal post.

The referee denied Arsenal's shouts for a penalty kick after defender Nile Jedinak held Olivier Giroud at the corner of the park.

Julian Speroni's was kept busy in the six yard box as he saved Ozil's shot, glanced by Laurent Koscielny, that was looking to be going for the goal.

Former Arsenal player Marouane Chamakh was booked for fouling just before half time.

Arsenal's efforts finally achieved their result as Oxlade-Chamberlain scored the first goal for the Gunners after an assistance by Santi Cazorla.

Arsenal strikers did not look back after scoring the first goal as Palace defenders were struggling to defend the strikes. Lukas Podolski missed an effort which could double their lead in the match.

Oxlade-Chamberlain scored his double in the game after a one-two passing with Santi Cazorla before netting the ball in the 73rd minute and sealing the match for the London based club.

The Gunners are now two points clear from the runners up Manchester City with 55 point in the season.
