ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf on Monday formally appointed Arshad Daad as party’s new secretary general a few days after the court rejected review petition against disqualification of Jahangir Tareen.

Daad was previously serving as PTI’s additional secretary general until Tareen was overseeing the party matters.

The party was waiting to fill the position until Supreme Court’s verdict over review petition filed against Tareen’s disqualification.

On December 15,2017, a three-judge bench headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar, disqualified PTI leader Tareen under Article 62 (1)(f) of the Constitution for deliberately submitting a false statement in the Supreme Court to conceal his property in the United Kingdom.

The Supreme Court on Sep 27 rejected review petition of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader Jahangir Tareen, against his disqualification. The counsel of Tareen submitted the trust deed that was earlier sought by the court.

However, in his remarks, the chief justice said: “We had asked for these documents during the case hearing and you failed to produce them at that time. Now is there any room for review after submission of documents now,” he asked.

In the review petition against his disqualification, Tareen had informed the court that he could not present legal instruments and specific documents regarding his trust — Shiny View Limited (SVL) — and a property — Hyde House — during the course of litigation because they were not in his personal knowledge, possession or control.
