WASHINGTON: Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United States Asad Majeed Khan on Friday reiterated Pakistan’s resolve for bringing peace in Afghanistan, ARY News reported.
Talking to Chairman US Senate Foreign Relations Subcommittee on South Asia Senator Mitt Romney in Washington, he said, “Pakistan wanted to work with the United States for peace and stability in Afghanistan”.
Mr Asad also briefed the US senator about the provocation from the Indian side following the Pulwama attack, last month.
He said the restraint and maturity shown by Pakistan’s leadership, highlighted by Prime Minister Imran Khan’s decision to release the Indian pilot was critical to de-escalating the situation between the two countries.

“Lasting peace and stability in South Asia would remain elusive as long as India continues to deny the people of Occupied Kashmir their legitimate right to self-determination”, the Pakistani envoy maintained.
On the occasion, Mr Romney thanked Asad Majeed Khan for briefing him about the recent situation and underlined the need of undisrupted contacts between Pakistan and the United States.
Last week, Pakistan’s ambassador voiced regret that the United States has not condemned India’s air incursion, saying the stance “emboldened” New Delhi.
“It is construed and understood as an endorsement of the Indian position and that is what emboldened them even more,” Khan told reporters when was asked about the US statement.
