ASF personnel rewarded for arresting ‘armed man’ at Lahore airport

LAHORE: A man carrying arms at the Lahore airport was arrested by the security officials on Friday morning, ARY News reported.

Airport Security Officials at Allama Iqbal International Airport spotted a suspicious man and conducted its search, and found short machine-gun and 25 bullets from his possession.

He was immediately taken into custody for interrogation. The arrested man couldn’t explain reasons for carrying arms. Further investigation is underway.

Deputy director operations ASF announced reward for officials who nabbed the suspect.

Security has already been beefed up at various points in Lahore in view of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) final match on March 5 (Sunday) at Gaddafi Stadium. The match will likely feature foreign players as well.

Army chief Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa has also assured full cooperation to Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif in ensuring security at the Pakistan Super League (PSL) final.

The army chief, in a telephone call a day before yesterday, assured the chief minister that the army will do ‘whatever was needed’ to provide security for the league’s finale.

Following the attack on Lahore’s Mall Road on February 13, army chief Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa had pledged full support to the authorities for holding the match according to schedule.
