Asia Cup 2014: SL elects to bowl first against India

FATULLAH: Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to field first against India on a pitch which is expected to produce a lot of runs in their Asia Cup 2014 encounter here at Fatullah on Friday, ARY News reports.

Sri Lankan Captain Angelo Mathews has included number of spinners in the side including Ajantha Mendis believing that it will be slow in the match earlier. Indian Captain Virat Kohli also said that he would have liked to bowl first in the match.

Earlier, both teams started their Asia Cup campaign with wins over their opponents. Sri Lanka had defeated Pakistan by 12 runs whereas India had beaten Bangladesh by five wickets.

India has won the tournament five times whereas Sri Lanka has clinched the trophy four times. The two teams have also been called favorites alongside Pakistan.

The superior batting department of India will face the quality bowling of the Sri Lankans. Lankan pacer Lasith Malinga had clinched 5 wickets against Pakistan and cross the 250 wicket mark whereas Virat Kohli had scored 136 against Bangladesh earlier in the tournament.

The two teams have faced each other off 143 times in which India emerged winner 78 times whereas Sri Lanka won 53 times. The captains of both teams have said that they will emerge victors in the match.

India XI: Shikhar Dhawan,  Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli,  Ajinkya Rahane, Ambati Rayudu, Dinesh Karthik, Ravindra Jadeja, Stuart Binny, Ravi Ashwin, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Mohammed Shami.

Sri Lanka XI: Kusal Perera, Lahiru Thirimanne, Kumar Sangakkara, Mahela Jayawardene, Dinesh Chandimal, Angelo Mathews, Thisara Perera, Chaturanga de Silva, Sachithra Senanayake, Lasith Malinga, Ajantha Mendis.
