ISLAMABAD: Prosecution witness Mohammed Azeem produced banking details of the former Finance Minister Ishaq Dar during the hearing of assets reference in the accountability court on Wednesday (today).
During his cross-examination by defense counsel, Azeem informed the court that Ishaq Dar issued cheques worth Rs 65.3 million to Hajvery Foundation. On January 22, 2010, the former minister issued a cheque of Rs 0.4 million while on March 1, 2010, another cheque of Rs 0.7 million was issued by him.
The prosecution witness said that he presented the banking details of Ishaq Dar before the NAB first and then submitted it in the court.
The witness is a private bank employee and a prosecution witness in the case against Ishaq Dar. His cross-examination was initiated on May 9 by defense counsel Qazi Misbah.
The NAB prosecutor informed the court that the co-accused in the case Saeed Ahmed, National Bank of Pakistan President, opened seven accounts in the name of Ishaq Dar and now he (Saeed Ahmed) has to answer as to who directed him for opening these accounts and how much money was in these accounts?
All co-accused in the case including NBP President Saeed Ahmed, were present during the hearing.
Assets beyond known sources of income:
The Supreme Court in its verdict in Panamagate case last year, ordered the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to file corruption references against Sharifs and Ishaq Dar.
In September last year, the bureau filed an interim reference against the then finance minister over possessing assets beyond his known sources of income.
Later, the accountability bureau requested to file supplementary references in the case and named National Bank of Pakistan President Saeed Ahmed, Naeem Mehmood and Mansoor Rizvi as co-accused.
Charges framed against Ishaq Dar and he has been absconding since November 2017.
