Astroneer launches on Xbox One and PC

Astroneer, a game of aerospace industry and interplanetary exploration, was finally launched on Xbox One and Windows 10 store on December 16, Friday.

One of the most awaited games of the year, Astroneer is set during a 25th century gold rush where players must explore the frontiers of outer space, risking their lives and resources in harsh environments for the chance of striking it rich.

You play an Astroneer: a near-future prospector seeking fortune and adventure, deposited on far-flung worlds by your enigmatic outfitting company. Astroneers must use the tools available to them to build thriving bases, discover valuable resources, and uncover exotic and mysterious artefacts.

You will land alone, or with a small crew of friends, on a planet to call your own.

Harsh but bountiful, infinite worlds will beckon you to explore, exploit, and ultimately to reshape to your desire. Excavate and deform the land, uncover precious Resources, jury-rig Equipment to suit your taste and needs, create industrial scale extraction and manufacturing Facilities, and locate rare Items and Artefacts. Contribute to the survival of Earth-based humankind, and get rich along the way.

The worlds in Astroneer are diverse, from huge spherical planets with atmospheres and vast landscapes, to strangely shaped small asteroids floating in the rings of gas giants.

Each world is procedurally generated, unique to your experience, and can be totally reshaped by your Tools. Excavate vast underground tunnels or create megaliths on the surface; the world is your Play-Doh.

You can also invite your friends to share the experience with you in multiplayer co-op.

Why Game Preview? Why Xbox?

Brendan Wilson, General Manager of System Era, explained that the ultimate vision for Astroneer is a big one, and “we’re a very new, very small team”. System Ear admires early access development models for democratizing how games are made. Without your help,

“Without your help, Astroneer would only be built under the thumb of a large publisher, who would decide if it was made at all. If people like the game enough to want to see it be updated and blossom, the team will grow and we’ll be able to invest in Astroneer with the only outside influence being you, our community,” said Wilson on a blogpost on Xbox News.
