At least 13 killed in RA Bazaar explosion
RAWALPINDI: At least 13 persons, including six security officials, were killed and 22 others were injured in a suicide explosion at a security checkpost near R.A. Bazaar earlier today, ARY News reports.
The injured are being shifted to Combined Military Hospital and District Headquarters Hospital. Several of the wounded are believed to be in critical condition.
Security officials have sealed the area whereas rescue teams have started their operation. Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) has arrived at the spot and the Law Enforcing Agencies (LEAs) have also launched a search operation.
It should be noted that Armed Forces Institute of Cardiology (AFIC) is located 600 metres away from the market. Fomer Army Chief General Pervez Musharraf is currently being treated for a heart problem.
Five to eight kilograms of explosives were used in the attack.
According to sources, the attackers tried to enter a sensitive building. The attacker exploded himself when the security forces tried to stop him.
Two suspected persons have also been arrested by the forces from the crime scene. They have been shifted to unknown location for investigation.
Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has claimed responsibility for the attack.
