ATM engineer apprehended for stealing Rs4.07 mn from teller machine

FAISALABAD: An engineer of automated teller machine (ATM) has been arrested on Monday for stealing more than 4.07 million rupees from a bank’s ATM in Faisalabad, ARY News reported.

A local has granted three-day physical remand of the accused for interrogation into the incident.

The suspect, Usman, works as an engineer in a private firm. Police said he stole Rs4.078 million from the ATM on November 10.

SP Madina Town in a press conference said the culprit had confessed to stealing the money and said that it was his first act of larceny. He was recognised with the help of a CCTV footage and arrested in after effort of two days, he added.

The suspect has said that police have confiscated the car he had bought for Rs1.57 million from the money and Rs2.49 million cash from him.

A day earlier, two more cases of hacking of bank account surfaced in Punjab and this time hackers deprived two persons including a teacher of their life savings.

According to the details, hackers withdrew over Rs0.3.2 million from two bank accounts in Pakpattan and Bahawalnagar.

The group of hackers siphoned Rs0.2 million from the bank account of the school teacher in Pakpattan.

The teacher, Abdul Ghafar said his money was transferred in no time, soon after he provided details about his bank account to a man, who pretended to be calling from the bank for the investigation purpose.
