Media houses come under attack in different cities

Mumtaz Qadri, a convicted killer of Punjab governor, was hanged on February 29.

Religious parties, in the wake of execution, today held demonstrations and rallies in different cities. A rally was organized by Sunni Tehreek at Karachi’s MA Jinnah Road, while one such rally also held at Data Darbar, Lahore, which culminated outside the Punjab Assembly.

Similar protests were held in Rawalpindi, Sargodha and other cities.

The demonstrations turned violent as raged masses attacked media houses in Karachi, Lahore, Hyderabad and other cities.

Office of the Aaj News in Karachi came under one such attack as incensed masses gathered outside it and damaged a vehicle.

The protesters also attacked Hyderabad Press Club and burned a counter over there, injuring four journalists and a press club employee. At this, a heavy contingent of police reached the spot and rescued news men besieged by the mobsters.

In Lahore’s Anarkali market, infuriated people pelted stones on media teams busy in coverage.

They broke wind-shields of two Digital Satellite News Gathering (DSNG) vans of Neo TV and Abb Takk News and harassed the staffers.

Miscreants damaged shops and property in Saddar electronic and mobile markets here, in a bid to force shut shops and businesses.
