AUCKLAND: New Zealand defeated India by 40 runs to win the first test match here at Auckland on Sunday, ARY News reports.
Indian batsmen Shikhar Dhawan and Cheteshwar Pujara started the day's proceedings at 87/1. The entire Indian batsmen was back in the pavilion at 366 runs.
Shikhar Dhawan was the highest scorer for India with 115 runs followed by Virat Kohli's score of 67 runs. Indian Captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni contributed 39 runs to the scorecard.
Neil Wagner took four wickets whereas Trent Boult and Tim Southee grabbed three wickets each.
Kiwis lead the two match test series 1-0. The second test match will be played at Westpac Stadium in Wellington on 14th February.
