Australia declares at 290/4, sets target of 482 to win

CENTURION: Australian Captain Michael Clarke declared the innings earlier today in Centurion at 290/4 setting South Africa a mammoth total of 482 runs to win, ARY News reports.

Australia added only two runs to their overnight total of 288 and Clarke called the team back to the pavilion when Shaun Marsh was caught behind from the bowling off Dale Steyn.

The Autsralian Captain had observed that the ball was staying low and the pitch had some cracks.

Pacer Mitchell Johnson will be looking to continue his dominance in the test form but it should be noted that the Proteas have a rich history when it comes down to chase fourh innings total. They successfully chased the target of 414 at Perth in 2008 series. They were also fell just eight runs short of chasing a world record target of 458 against India last year.

The South Africa batsmen will have to stay at crease and not lose any quick wickets in successive fashions like they did in the first innings. The top order will have to perform really well to provide any resistance to the Australian side.

The highest run chase in test cricket recorded was 418 runs that was achieved by West Indies vs Australia in 2003. South Africa has to bat for 174 overs.
