Australia whitewash England in Ashes
SYDNEY: Australia whitewashed England in the Ashes series 5-0 as they won the fifth test by 281 runs on the third day here at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) on Saturday, ARY News reports.
Australian team was all out at 276 setting England a target of 448 runs to win. Chris Rogers, with his knock of 119 runs, was the highest scorer for the team.
In reply, the English batsman could not provide any resistance to the Australian bowlers and were back in the pavilion at 166. Opener Michael Carberry was the highest scorer for the team with his knock of 42 runs followed by Stuart Broad’s score of 42 runs.
Pacers Ryan Harris took five wickets whereas Mitchell Johnson took three wickets.
Ryan Harris was named Man of the Match whereas Mitchell Johnson was named Man of the Series.
Australia has now won the Ashes urn 32 times. It is the first time they have won the prestigious series since the 2006/2007 series.
