The chairman Pakistan International Airlines has also been urged to join the talks. The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of PIA employees will meet the aviation secretary at 1pm tomorrow.

The employees of PIA have strongly opposed the government move to privatize the national carrier and announced countrywide strike with closure of offices.

However, PIA offices at airports were still operation.

The JAC said the protest would continue and there would be no “compromise” until the government took back its decision to privatise PIA.

Capt Sohail Baloch of the JAC said our protest would continue till the withdrawal of the Pakistan International Airlines Corporation (Conversion) Ordinance, 2015.

Similarly in Lahore, employees staged a demonstration and PIA’s main Egerton Road office observed a complete strike.

The protesting PIA employees said if the decision to privatise the airline was not withdrawn by Feb 2, they would suspend flight operations too.
